Transfer 1.5 hours to Thimphu. Visit Trashi Chhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan's government and royal office, and pay a visit to Pangri Zampa, a monastic training school for astrologers.

Hike to Cheri Goemba Monastery where the first monastic body was established. Back in town, visit cottage industries ranging from traditional paper making to hand rolled incense.

Day 3
Drive 5 hours over the mountain pass of Dochu La into to the Phobjika Valley. View the 17th-century Simtokha Dzong and ancient wall paintings at the Hongtsho Goemba Monastery. Drive along the Kingdom’s only east-west highway and pass the scenic village of Wangdi. Enjoy a picnic lunch en-route and check-in to your lodge. Explore Gangtey Goemba on a 1.5 hours nature trail.

Set in the midst of the farmers’ autumn potato harvest, Bhutanese wooden furniture and flickering candles, a candle-lit potato shed dinner is awaiting you.

Day 4
The Longtey Village hike leads you through bamboo and rhododendron forest, clusters of village houses and yaks grazing in the area in winter. At the end of your climb, be rewarded with impressive views and a picnic lunch awaits. Choose to drive or hike 3-5 hrs back.

We recommend a hot-stone bath experience at the lodge.

Day 5
Drive 3.5 hours to Punakha and check into your lodge. Take a short hike through beautiful rice fields to Chimmi Lhakhang Temple. Have some free time in the late afternoon enjoying the lodge.

Day 6
Your day in Punakha Valley begins with a hike through fields of chilli, cabbage, and rice along the banks of the Mo Chu to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten and the impressive Punakha Dzong.
​
Enjoy a private riverside barbeque lunch along the edge of the Mo Chu. Afterwards, explore the village of Talo.

Day 7
Drive down Dochu La and follow the mountain road pass dramatic Wang Chu and Paro Chu river valleys. In the afternoon, stroll to the nearby ruins, view some of the valley's oldest and holiest monuments or wander down Paro's main street.

Evenings at Amankora may include informative lectures on history, religion, flora and fauna of the region or an intriguing movie on the Himalayas.

Day 8
Visit Paro Rinpung Dzong which houses a community of monks and administrative government. Cross Nyamai Zampa, a traditional cantilevered bridge and visit a traditional farmhouse for lunch with a local family. This afternoon, hike one of Bhutan's most revered monuments, the Taktshang Monastery.
